The Compsognathus, affectionately known as “Compy,” appears in The Lost World: Jurassic Park both as a solitary creature and as a highly coordinated pack hunter.

When Dieter Stark ventures into the forests of Isla Sorna to relieve himself, he encounters a Compsognathus and tries to scare it away with a cattle prod, as he had already done with another Compy. Without Stark realizing it, the creature acts as a scout. Soon, an entire pack begins to pursue him through the dense forest.

After becoming separated from his group, Stark tries to return but trips and falls down a slope. The Compys surround him and attack from all directions. Although Stark manages to fight them off and temporarily drive the pack away, they return shortly after. Later, by a nearby stream, the pack attacks Stark again and finally overwhelms him.
